For 3 days recently, part of my daily commute was a walk from London Victoria to Marble Arch, through a sunny Hyde Park.
It’s not a route I’ve done before, and it’s safe to say I’m not a natural navigator. I’m terrible at finding my way to new places on my own the first time (and often a few times after that!).
In the past I’ve judged myself for this. It felt like a weakness I should be able to fix.
Now I use Maps.
Day 1 - I was glued to it.
Day 2 - I checked, then found my way on my own.
Day 3 - I didn’t even need to get my phone out.
When we’re going somewhere different for the first time - in real life, or in our life - it can feel like we should be able to figure it out on our own.
To get from A to B without help.
To find our own way.
But, it’s absolutely fine to find a way to make it easier. To have something to:
Point you in the right direction.
Keep you on track and stop you getting lost.
Help you get your bearings.
Because, once you’ve got them, you can find your own way more easily.
Wishing you all a week of heading in the right direction,
