Recently I found myself creating a framework for the different types of people I coach, and the different types of ways we coach together.
There is now SO much variety (which I love), and I thought I’d found a brilliant way of organising it all.
It felt so interesting - look at these patterns! I could even make it into a 4-box matrix!
It made complete sense in my mind, until…
I started to spot the (many) exceptions to the rule.
I shared it out loud, trying to explain my thinking, and confused myself each time.
I finally realised what a ridiculous thing I was doing (with thanks to Claire Pedrick MCC).
Why was I trying to fit everyone and all their experiences into one of 4 boxes???
It was a good question, especially as so much of my learning through life has been about the power of difference.
I truly believe that it’s OK to be the exception to the rule, that we all have a unique recipe for a life that gives us energy, that we each have our own way of winning at being us.
I even have specific necklaces that I have bought over time to remind myself of this - to let myself be every colour, with permission to change and grow.
It was a useful reminder that systems and frameworks can be really interesting.
They can help us understand ourselves and others, they can give us insight into how we operate, and how others do too.
We just need to remember to take the insight as a place to start from, not to get stuck in.
None of us fits completely into any size box.
Wishing you all a week of moving freely ✨
